Artist Statement

William Wessel has been sculpting for the last 33 years. The medium he prefers is welded steel. The finishes range from a natural patina to recently high gloss, transparent, gem-like glazes.

His artistic endeavors have taken him from Quebec to Costa Rica and Arizona to the west. His works can be seen in public gardens, airports, corporations, and thousands of private collections. “I love traveling to new places, witnessing life there, and meeting new people. It’s all part of the lifestyle.”

The work has seen some transitions in the past three decades. It started out representational with a stylized realism to abstraction then back again. No matter what the style, it was always based on nature and human nature.

“My work does not delve into politics, social issues, or autobiography. I strive for beauty, spiritual uplifting, amusement, anything that keeps the ego in check.”
